What are some things that are important to MEMORIZE in your field/unit/specialty

    things like specific medication side effects, policies, lab values, commonly desired vital signs for specific conditions, basically anything that could potentially be memorized before moving to a certain area without actually having experience there?

    I work ER. So all of your vasopressors and titrations, dosages and time call outs during a code, order of administration of paralytics during an intubation, how nitro can make or break your patient during a hypertensive emergency, what to give/limit during a stroke with elevated BP, and never give Mr. Jefferson the turkey sandwich without mayo or he’ll smear shit all over the curtains and call you a “callous cow”.

    @katyxoxo I would not worry about trying to memorize things ahead of time in anticipation of maybe working in that specialty. Every hospital has different policies and there are even different policies at the same hospital but between different units.
